About Us
My name is Nancy Galway and I live and work in Hopedale, Labrador. Hopedale is an Inuit community of approximately 600 hundred people, located on Canada's isolated north coast. Not accessible by road, the community is connected to the outside world by boat, plane and skidoo. It is here that crazie otter produces it's natural products, taking inspiration from the surrounding rugged environment.
I moved here in 2004, from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, where I lived for 11 years. I loved living in the NWT, but if you were born by the ocean, you eventually return to the ocean. Originally from St. John's, NL, I felt the pull of the cold Atlantic, and the need to be closer to family again. I moved to Hopedale with 3 crazy cats and somehow in the last year I have acquired a dog team! Sign up for our newsletter for updates on the "team", self-care, animal care and information about making your own products.
My education includes a certificate in Aromatherapy, obtained from the Canadian Holistic Training School located in Mississauga, Ontario. I became interested in aromatherapy while struggling with pain management, after being diagnosed with chronic osteoarthritis in 2001. I am also certified in Hot Stone Healing Therapy, from the same school, obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba, a Fiber Arts Diploma from the NFLD Craft School (now located in the College of the North Atlantic), and Reiki Level ll.
The company name, crazie otter, reflects how I feel about self-care and healing. The otter represents balanced female energy and playfulness. The name is all in lower case letters to represent equality and balance.
I hope the products will help you on your path to better health and also add some fun to your journey.
Remember to bring out the otter in you!
